TG's favorites will serve as a collection of resources and tutorials for creating manga! If you know of any great resources you'd like to share, suggest them to our favorites!

If God is with you, you will succeed. I've often said this. If God is for you, who can be against you. Right?

When something like this is said, it makes it sound like it'll always be a great success. It honestly makes it sound like any bumps and blips and opposition won't actually make much of a dent in what you do. It won't cripple you, tear you down, or destroy you.

So what happens when it does?
What happens when things fail?

From my own personal life and experiences, it can look like this…

I make manga, and no one reads.
I draw images, and no one looks at them.
I write stories, and no one cares.
I lead a group, and it fizzles out.
I encourage, and it has no effect.
I talk, and no one listens.

From my point of view, in the things that could matter the most, I'm pretty much a failure. And these are the things that God has called me to do!! When everything that actually seems to matter in light of eternity FAILS… I do end up wondering if God is really in this and has really called me to this.

I realize that a lot of people probably end up feeling the same way. The reason some people don't keep making manga, drawing, writing, imagining, or dreaming… is because they've tried, and nothing worked out. The reason some people quit doing what matters most… is because it doesn't seem like it's working out.

Sometimes, it seems like all of it was a failure.

I was reading through Judges 20 the other day, and something caught my attention. In this chapter, the Israelites are prepared to go to war against one of their own tribes, the Benjamites, for a heinous crime that had been committed. In fitting with the Law and Old Testament beliefs, they decided to purge the evil from Israel (Judges 20:13).

When they are prepared to go to war, they ask God who should go. God tells them to send the tribe of Judah (20:18). They went, and the Benjamites slaughtered thousands of them (20:21). In distress, the Israelites cried out to God again and asked if they should really go, and God told them yes, they should go (20:23). They went, and again, thousands of their people were slaughtered (20:25).

Their mission was a huge failure! 40,000 people died! The enemy won the battle!
If God told them to go, wouldn't you expect God to make them succeed?

I think our life and our mission are like this.
God calls, and you leap… and the fall hurts.
You lose friends. You lose time. You lose money. You lose strength. You lose hope.
Your mission seems like a failure.
At least for now.

If you'll keep reading, Judges 20 ends with God telling them one last time to go (20:28). Even though their faith has probably been shaken at this point, the Israelites still trust God and go… and God wins the war (20:35). God is with them, God fights for them, and God gives them success. But their success did not come easily, and it didn't come without a high price. God did give them victory. Just not in their timeframe. Or in their anticipated way.

They had to fail first.
They had to weep first.
They had to have great faith first.
They had to keep trusting God when it looked like God wasn't there.

When things that you're trying to do seem like a failure, remember Judges 20. God may call you somewhere, and you may lose a few battles in the process of going where He's sent you. You may lose a few fights doing what God has called you to do.

Fail forward. Keep moving.
A lost battle doesn't mean you've lost the war.

Yes, you can share them here! If they are manga pages, please make sure they go in the "Completed Works - Manga" folder, though.

"And in this I give advice: It is to your advantage not only to be doing what you began and were desiring to do a year ago; but now you also must complete the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to desire it, so there also may be a completion out of what you have."--2 Corinthians 8:10-11

then why are you not completing your manga? "but now you also must complete the doing of it"... just curious.

It's not born out of "giving up" or burning out...It has to do with the direction my life is taking and how God will use me. I think God used this time, but I don't think it's the longterm plan for my life. My desire and my intentions aren't there, and I just don't think it's what the big picture is for me. But to those who are called, and are wearing down in their calling: Don't give up.
